GAPER DAY / 80'S SNOW BUNNY

Some EPIC SNOW FASHION in the wild mountains of Colorado.

I have personally spent several winters chillin' out snowboarding and living the snow bunny lifestyle in these very same mountains, it's a place that always calls my heart back every single year around winter time, and I'd been DYING to shoot a snow themed editorial for years. THIS was the shoot with Jordan from NXT Modeling, and my last chance for the 2016/2017 season!

The snow was starting to die down as Spring crept up (if you believe it) and so we had to plan ASAP if we wanted to catch the fresh mountain powder before it melted away... And oh, did we catch it... Let me tell you... This was a CHILLY ONE!

Our theme was Gaper Day / Retro 80's Snow Bunny Style!

(if you know what Gaper Day is, X 10 extra Alyssa Brownie Points awarded to your radness, and if you've actually participated in Gaper Day, X 100,000 Brownie Points and we should probably be friends immediately. Haha If you're officially lost, Urban Dictionary actually has a really hilarious definition. It's like that, but less offensive and more just really awesome.)

Anyways! For styling, I had actually found these ridiculously fantastical winter jackets in none other than the tropical flea markets of Bali, Indonesia!? Seriously. If you believe that. How they got there, I have no clue, but when I saw their neon amazingness, I knew without a shred of doubt, I had to buy ALL of them to shoot this, (for a total of less than $30 USD for 5 Jackets, no lie) plus obviously an additional suitcase just to fly them here. So, I styled the entire shoot off of the hot pink and purple blue puffy ski jackets, with fluorescent leggings, plenty of Wildfox sweatshirts to prevent the model Jordan from freezing to death, my Juicy Couture fluffy pink Trapper Hat (Vegan and fantastical) my only pair of Mukluks (I've worn for years), and then my BFF's amazing set of Nordica Skis and brand new shiny Anon orange goggles (only lending them with slight hesitation. lol) Jordan even bought a super rad black bobbed wig especially for the shoot! Love when my models are so stoked to go the extra mile (or 70 miles in this case. LOL)

Day of shoot, we got a rather late start on the drive up to the snow from Denver and the Front Range, with makeup/hair taking a bit longer than planned (obviously), we had a little over an hour after the drive to shoot everything before we lost light. I initially planned for a sunny blue bird shoot, but the mountains answer to no one, especially when it comes to weather, so along came the afternoon snowstorms. We managed to scout this amazing icy ledge on this windy road over the pass where we completed most of the shoot before the blizzard rolled over the snowy peaks, finishing the last look as the snow totally took over our view.

Ending the day in classic Apres fashion, with Jordan possibly getting a little bit of frostbite on her toes (nbd LOL) and the whole team shivering furiously half the car ride down, freezing but stoked. Just anotha day on the mountain my friends. ;)
