In Dust I Trust…

Burning Man. 2019

A mystical otherworldly place of fun, curiosity, and freedom. It’s a pop-up utopian society (now even listed on Google Maps if you search Black Rock City) where everyone is happy and kind, there is no money, and it honestly feels more like you were somehow transported to Tatooine than actually still being anywhere on Earth. You can do whatever you want (within reason, obviously besides harming ppl, duhhhh) wear whatever you want, and be whoever you want. Days can be filled with free ramen, almost heat stroke, painting random objects, climbing art, bicycling miles, riding random art cars, laughs, naps, parties, intellectual conversations, meditations, dancing, neon, machines that throw fire, so much dust and sooo many lights that can probably be seen from the moon. And that’s just until dusk on Day 1. Haha

If you’ve never been, I highly recommend it for basically everyone (upon doing your research and thorough preparation, as one of the main aspects is ‘Radical Self Reliance’… quite literally) It’s the only “Festival” I actually LOVE. Everything else is so over-commercialized, over-sponsored, and just plain fake. Versus Burning Man, where it’s genuinely whatever you want it to be, and definitely 1000% everything you need it to be. (implied context only understood after attendance LOL)

Behold… “In Dust I Trust.” Desert Selfie Series

This shoot was inspired by Burning Man and this amazing grey Space Coat by Marigold Shadows!

Marcy, the liaison from Marigold Shadows, had reached out to me wanting to work together, and as soon as I saw this futuristic puffer on their site, I knew it was meant for the Playa! I paired it with some Robo Raver Shield Sunnies from Dolls Kill, the classic Neon Cowboys glowing hat, and these amazing white buckle boots from Demonia, both of which I ordered to wear for Burning Man LAST YEAR (2018 LOL No joke) but didn’t arrive in time… So! They got to make their long awaited debut this year instead! If you notice in the pics, I decided to add a little sparkle of glitter, a few gadgets, and some Swarovski crystal detailing around the platforms (customized by me.) Which I’m pretty happy with the way they turned out!

The final important wardrobe item to note, a Magical Neck Scarf that I bought on my drive up to the dust in Nixon at the unofficial Burning Man Swap Meet. I stopped there to see all of the amazing creative items that they sell to Burners on their last leg before they reach the Playa. You could literally show up with nothing (besides your food, shelter, and a whole lotta cash) and you could buy allll of the best high end Burner Fashion pieces you could possibly need at this place! If you’ve never stopped there on your way to the Burn (or if you’ve never been to the Burn at all) I highly recommend! I only bought the one scarf this time around, and it was perfect because besides having a beautiful pattern, I was completely mesmerized when the guy told me there are pieces of actual selenite crystals inside the silver paint they use to make the design! (anything crystals… And I’m sold! Haha)

Oh, and one more thing! My nails are by the AMAZINGLY TALENTED Lex, who can paint literally ANYTHING on your claws that you could dream of. (Peep the spooky witch eyes and layered holographic acrylic ;)
