THEME INTRO:

"glob·al·i·za·tion : the increasing interaction of people, states, or countries through the growth of the international flow of money, ideas, and culture."

In essence, the integration of all seasons, all economies, all markets, all into one. Globalization is all around us, it's in our IG feeds, magazines, daily emails, news feeds, and all across the internet. With the world becoming more and more connected everyday, this is an obvious and logical after effect. It demands our attention to crave summer in winter, and the other way around, to be the perfect snow bunny AND the perfect beach babe all in the same week!

It's especially interesting within the local economies of season-less tropical climates where droves of tourists of all origins flock and the supply/demand paradigm shifts to almost insanity; with winter coats, heavy boots and thick beanies being distributed in high volume sales on islands where the local temperatures never drop below 70°Fahrenheit (21°Celsius). But that's what the tourists want, and it SELLS.

I wanted to shoot a Fashion Editorial exemplifying this phenomenon to the MAX. Girl Globalized is the jet-lagged and wanderlust babe who landed on the beach with only her cold-climate gear and an indifference to seasons and perception.

SHOOT EXPERIENCE: B.T.S.

I'd been pondering over this theme for several weeks with no official model lined up or plan set in stone, and when Jerusha flew into Honolulu short-notice, I knew we could make this happen! Jerusha is an amazing model, she photographs so well with her strong features and sweet personality. I shared with her my fairly eccentric theme, ("Hey Girl, it's like Winter... Only on the beach!..." LOLOL) and in trusting my ideas and vision, and because obviously she's awesomeee, she agreed! This was our third shoot together, so we knew each other's rhythms and have always managed to create beautiful photos together (you can read more from our Viva Old Vegas adventure here.)

For Girl Globalized, I provided all of the styling personally, sourcing wardrobe from several shops, including Free People, Urban, Rebel X Misfit Jewelry, and of course coveted pieces from my own closet and adventures. It was fairly easy to find all of the many layers (globalization... Duh.) For MUA, I was really excited to work with makeup artist Olivia for the first time on this project, she had just recently relocated to Hawaii, and her IG portfolio was STUNNING! I knew she could create some really beautiful coloring and contouring that was essential for that editorial/Vogue vibe.

Gathering extra wardrobe and figuring out last min transportation and location details for everyone on our Girl Team gave us a bit of a late start to the afternoon of shooting. We also ran into a few speed bumps with the weather at the beach becoming scorching HOT and almost unbearable for us to shoot heavy layered looks... But with perseverance, and a passionate dedication to the theme, we busted out 4 separate/unique looks way before sundown, making it HAPPEN. That's one of the most interesting aspects of a shoot, it's like in business and in life, you never REALLY know exactly how it's going to go, but if you work well under pressure and you don't ever give up.. It'll all turn out rad and rewarding in its own right.
